Description: Timolol Eye Drops is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent. Timolol causes reduction of elevated ocular pressure. It is indicated for treatment of ocular hypertensionChronic open-angle glaucomaAphakic glaucomaSecondary glaucomaManagement of glaucoma in paediatric patients .

Pharmacological effects: Timolol is a beta 1 and beta 2 adrenergic receptor blocking agent.  It blocks actions of sympathetic nervous system. Timolol ophthalmic solution, when instilled, it has the effect eye by reducing elevated, as well as normal intraocular pressure, whether or not accompanied by glaucoma. Elevated intraocular pressure is a major risk factor in the pathogenesis of glaucomatous visual field loss and optic nerve damage.

Pharmacokinetics:

Indications: It is indicated for treatment of ocular hypertension Chronic open-angle glaucoma Aphakic glaucoma Secondary glaucoma Management of glaucoma in paediatric patients

Precautions: It is recommended to consult your physician prior using Timolol Maleate Eye Drops
.Patient should not touch the tip of dropper or the Eye Drops. Mishandling of the ophthalmic solution can lead to bacterial contamination that can further cause ocular infection.Patient should be instructed that in case of development of ocular infection or abnormality report to your doctor immediately. Bacterial infection due to inappropriate handling of ophthalmic product container can cause bacterial keratitis. Patients with history of cardiac failure and cardiac disorders should be managed properly before starting on Timolol Maleate Eye Drops. High degree of caution is advice in concomitant use of Timolol Maleate Eye Drops and other systemic beta-adrenergic blocking agents.

Adverse reaction: Ocular irritation accompanied by stinging and burning sensation Bacterial infections, conjunctivitis, bacterial keratitis and dry eyes. Visual abnormalities, including refractive changes, double vision and choroidal detachment, drooping of upper or lower eye lid. Cardiovascular side-effects: Low heart rate, low blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, loss of consciousness, heart blockage, cardiac arrest, congestive heart failure. Respiratory side effects: Bronchospasm in patients with history of brochospastic disease (COPD), prolonged coughing and respiratory distress.
