Description:  Thymopentin is an immunostimulant. As such, it has been used in several clinical studies in the early years of the AIDS pandemic (from 1983 to 1985). Thymopentin helped to improve immunological condition in several patients for a brief time under specific treatments. It interacts with T cells. Chemical name of thymopentin is L-arginyl-L-lysyl-L-α- spartyl-L-valyl- L-tyrosine.

Pharmacological effects: The product is immune two-way regulator, and has activities in inducing the differentiation of T cells and promoting the development, maturation and activation of T-lymphocytes, accommodating the ratios among T cell subpopulations and normalizing CD4+/CD8+; it has the function of regulating and increasing the immunity function of human cells, promoting the Tlymphocyte cells in mitogen-activated peripheral blood to get mature, increasing secretion of T cells on various antigens or various mitogen-activated lymphokines (i.e. α interferon, y interferon, IL2 and IL3) and raise the level of lymphokine receptor on T cells. It also enhances lymphokine reaction by activating T helper cells. Besides, the product can affect chemotaxis of NK precursor cells which get more cytotoxicity after exposed to interferon.

Indications: Patients above the age of 18 years suffering from chronic hepatitis B;- Various primary or secondary T cell immunodeficiency diseases, i.e. children innate immunodeficiency disease;- Some autoimmune diseases, i.e. rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, etc.- Various diseases with impaired cell immunity functions;- Supplementary treatment of rumor diseases.

Precautions: Because the product therapy appears to work by enhancing the immune system, it should be considered contraindicated in patients who are being deliberately immunosuppressed, unless the potential benefits of the therapy clearly outweigh the potential risks. Liver function of patients suffered from chronic hepatitis B should be regularly tested during therapy. Patients below the age of 18 yeas should be administered with caution.

Adverse reaction: Thymopentin administration may cause transient nausea, heat, dizziness, chest stuffiness, asthenia, etc. for individual patients, and induce sleep for a small number of patients.Thymopentin can be used with a number of common drugs without any disturbance, including interferon, antiphlogistic drug, antibiotic, hormone, analgesic, hypotensor, diuretic, drug for treatment of cardiovascular disease, central nervous system drug and contraceptive drug. Cooperative action for improving immune function occurs when Thymopentin is administered together with interferon.
